Create Your Compelling Small Business Marketing Vision

Small Business Marketing

Do you know why you are marketing?

Sure, you want to make money, increase profits and be successful.  But that's not enough

Your vision provides a motivational, uplifting statement of the ideal future for your business. A simple vision statement, a core component of any business or marketing strategy, provides a sense of direction to which the whole company can subscribe.

An old Japanese Proverb says,

"If you aim at a tree and fall short, you may only hit the ground.
If you aim at the sky you may hit a tree"

Make sure you don't set your targets too low.

Build Your Business Vision

Start with a short description of where the business will be 3 years, 2 years and one year from now. Pitch your vision around answers to these questions:

  • What will our major products and services be?

  • What will be our target market?

  • Will we be market leaders, followers or niche players?

  • What will our unique competitive position be?

  • How will we 'know' our ideal customer?

  • How will we be perceived by our customers?

  • How will we promote your services to our customers?

You'll think of many more questions/issues as you work through the list. Use those that enhance your thinking. Keep it simple.

Use your answers to prepare a simple statement you are ready to share with your whole business. When you think you are ready take a long, cool look at what you have produced.

Now ask yourself, "Will this truly uplift and motivate me, my staff, the company stakeholders: suppliers, customers, investors and partners?"

If you answer 'no' you had better revisit your vision before going any further.

    Special Note

To continue to do the same things and expect different results is one definition of madness.
